As a taco aficionado and a native Texan, I feel it’s my duty to inform and enlighten folks in Atlanta on the best spots for this tasty treat.
The best tacos come from places that serve them in foil or on styrofoam plates with cling wrap holding in the aroma of fresh lime. These are the taco spots with grandmas, aunties, and cousins working in the kitchen, sharing traditional recipes with the world. If you’re a fan of the kind of tacos I like (made with real ingredients and available for a low price), I have four spots in Atlanta that will have you eating tacos every other day just like I do.
4. El Progresso Taqueria
1460 Boulevard SE, Atlanta, GA 30315

If you live on the Eastside, this one is for you. Although there are many El Progresso‘s around the city, my favorite is located at 1460 Boulevard SE not far from Moreland. It’s a meat mart/grocery/everything store so you’ll have to walk to the back of the store to place your order at the restaurant. The flavors are always on point and the service is fast. However, be prepared to wait if you plan on going around lunch time!
3. La Pastorsita
3304 Buford Hwy NE, Atlanta, GA 30329
Buford Highway is the paradise of authentic Mexican and Asian cuisine. Towards the North Druid side of Buford sits La Pastorsita. Although surrounded by other fast food options, La Pastorsita is the real deal! Stop in for chicken, pork, or beef tacos. I can never go in and simply get one chicken taco, so I usually end up with two!
#2 Mibarrio Mexican Restaurant
571 Memorial Dr SE, Atlanta, GA 30312

Working downtown and don’t want the leftovers you packed for lunch? Slide down Memorial Drive to Mi Barrio. Family owned and operated, this tiny eatery has some of the best tacos I’ve had in a long time. I appreciate their tacos because you can taste the love in the food. The atmosphere is cozy enough for a date but also lively enough for a group of friends.
#1 Pollo Norteno
2501 Chamblee Tucker Rd, Atlanta, GA 30341

My absolute favorite taco spot has two locations (that I know of) but I like to frequent the one on Chamblee Tucker. The best thing about Pollo Norteno is the smoker in the back of the building. The aroma of the meat cooking entices you to pull over as soon as possible. I love their tacos, but everything else I’ve tried on their menu is also delicious.
If tacos speak to your little heart like they speak to mine, check out these hideaways to get budget-friendly, savory eats. You won’t be disappointed!
